Coach Spotlight: Joe Williams
Decades of experience. A passion for teaching the game. And a coach who knows that baseball is about far more than what happens between the lines.
Meet Coach Joe Williams, leading the Minor B team this season at New Castle Little League. With 26 years of coaching players ages 4–18, he brings knowledge, patience, and a love for the game to every practice and game.
What Inspired Him to Coach
Sports have been an outlet for Coach Joe since childhood. Inspired by the coaches who guided him, he developed a passion for teaching the game.
What keeps him coming back is seeing players discover confidence and determination they didn’t know they had. One player believing in themselves creates energy that spreads to teammates, parents, and fellow coaches. That impact is priceless.
Playing Background
Coach Joe played at Stanton Newport and Midway Little League, primarily at second and third base. He began coaching in 2000 and later founded the Community Athletic League (CAL) in 2005, serving on its board of directors for 12 years.
His experience gives him the tools to help young players learn fundamentals while instilling respect and discipline.
What Excites Him Most This Season
This season, Coach Joe is focused on developing players ages 6–8 by teaching strong baseball fundamentals alongside lessons in respect, hard work, and dedication both on and off the field.
Life Lessons He Teaches
For Coach Joe, the biggest lesson is building self-confidence.
For one player, it may be hitting their first home run. For another, it may be catching a ball from a teammate. Every player develops at their own pace, but the principle is the same: practice and believing in yourself will always prevail.
How He Builds Confidence and Keeps It Fun
Coach Joe approaches baseball—and life—one day at a time.
By setting small goals, players experience small but constant victories, giving them confidence and a mindset that helps them accomplish anything, both on and off the field.
Team Walk-Up Song
Every team has its soundtrack. For Coach Joe, it’s “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne. Practices might start with a little chaos, but the team stays on track toward their goals. Each season is a wild ride full of laughs, memorable moments, and fun.
Looking Forward to Spring
Coach Joe is most excited about watching the hard work pay off. Seeing a player finally hit the ball, or catch the ball they struggled with, and watching their eyes light up with pride—that is why he coaches.
